RUSTON Northwestern State freshmen Jacqueline Rushford and Josh Wilkins won individual championships Saturday morning at Louisiana Tech's Mook 5 cross country meet, with the Lady Demons dominating the women's team completion by finishing five freshmen among the top 12 runners. The NSU women finished 1-2-4-7-12 to score 26 points, with Louisiana-Monroe a distant second at 67. Rushford rolled through the 5,000-meter course at the Tech Farm in 19:43.10 with teammate Erin Wrozek second in 20:04.80, Emily Sitarz fourth in 20:22, Ashley Adams seventh (20:40.80) and Erin Sitarz in 12th (21:07.10). Also finishing for NSU was sophomore Annie Fillars, 16th in 21:34.30. Wilkins outran Louisiana Tech's Taylor Ashton down the stretch to post a 15:40.90 time over the 5k, with Ashton close behind at 15:41.60. The Bulldogs had the next four finishers to post a near-perfect score of 20. The Demons were second at 51. The Demons got an 11th-place 16:39.30 by freshman Guy Butts. Junior Jeremy Elliott ran 13th in 16:55.50, and rounding out NSU's scoring were sophomore Lucas Moncla (15th, 17:12.20) and freshman Hunter Warmack (20th, 17:47.10). The other NSU finishers were sophomore Skylor Reese (21st, 17:49.90), freshman Tyler Corwin (27th, 19:25) and sophomore Miles Brown (32nd, 19:54.90). The Lady Demons were winners in dual meet scoring with ULM, Alcorn State, Louisiana Tech, Southeastern Oklahoma, Grambling, Centenary and Louisiana College. The Demons came out on top in dual scoring against Alcorn, Grambling, Centenary and Louisiana College. Southeastern Oklahoma and ULM did not run in the men's race. Next Saturday, NSU goes to McNeese.
