Cross Country: Pearce, Devitt Give Ragin' Cajuns Sweep Of Sun Belt Weekly Awards

Comments

NEW ORLEANS The Ragin' Cajuns duo of freshman Logan Pearce and sophomore Anna Katherine Devitt earned Sun Belt Cross Country Runner of the Week honors, the second sweep by one school in the awards this season in an announcement by the league office on Wednesday.

Pearce, from West Monroe, earned the award for the second time in three weeks while Devitt, from Baton Rouge, earned her first honor this season.

Pearce, a true freshman and former West Monroe High product, continued his stellar year for the Ragin' Cajuns finishing 10th overall at the 41st annual Florida State Invitational last Friday at the Apalachee Regional Park. He posted the top time for the Ragin' Cajuns as he covered the 8K course in 25:35.72 and competed against runners from Florida State, ranked No. 2 in the South Region, and Florida A&M, ranked No. 15.

Devitt, a Christian Life Academy product, performed well against the second-ranked team in the country (Florida State) and the No. 15-ranked cross country program (South Florida) in the South Region. The sophomore turned in the best time for the Ragin' Cajuns covering the 5K course in 18:25.16 to finish 14th overall.

"I cannot think of two more deserving individuals than AK and Logan." assistant coach Kelly LaMaison, who handles the Ragin' Cajuns cross country team, said. "Their work ethic and leadership as a freshman and sophomore speak volumes. Anna is coming into her own and leading our women's team to another level, and Logan is our top freshman that keeps the rest of our guys chasing after our goals of competing for a (Sun Belt) conference championship."

The Ragin' Cajuns will return to action on Saturday, Oct. 19, when it competes at the UALR Invite in Little Rock, Ark. The meet will be the final tuneup for the Ragin' Cajuns prior to competing in the Sun Belt Conference Championships on Nov. 2 in Troy, Ala.
