Comments

TROY, Ala. After participating in five events over the fall, the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns cross country team will compete on Saturday at the 2013 Sun Belt Conference Championships that will be held at Trojans Oaks on the campus of Troy University.

The event begins with the women's 5K race at 10 a.m. and the men's 8K race will follow at 11. Final results will be available at www.RaginCajuns.com.

Louisiana, which was picked to finish fifth on the men's side, has been led all season by freshman Logan Pearce. The West Monroe native turned in the top overall times for the Ragin' Cajuns in 8K events and was twice named the Sun Belt Conference Men's Runner of the Week.

Corbett Ourso has been the Cajuns' No. 2 runner on the season with Jacob Chicola, Scott Brewster and Trey Bonin providing quality performances.

The Ragin' Cajuns will compete against a nine-team field on the men's side that features preseason favorite UT Arlington, ranked No. 3 in the South Central Region, and Arkansas State, ranked No. 10.

On the women's side, the Ragin' Cajuns were picked to finish ninth in a field that features four regionally-ranked teams: preseason favorite Arkansas State (No. 10, South Central), UTA (No. 14, South Central), Texas State (No. 15 South Central) and Georgia State (No. 14, South).

Anna Katherine Devitt finished as the top runner in all five events during the season for the Ragin' Cajuns, earning Sun Belt Conference Female Runner of the Week honors on Oct. 16. Freshman Claire Hodges finished as the Ragin' Cajuns No. 2 runner, earning a pair of top-10 finishes on the season.

Awards will also be given to the 15-member, Sun Belt Cross Country All-Conference team for both races. The top five will earn First Team accolades, with the six through ten finishers earning Second Team honors and the 11th through 15th place runners garnering Third Team honors. One Freshman of the Year award will be given to the top finishing freshman from each race. A Coach of the Year award will be determined following the event.
