Track and Field: Cajuns Ready To Compete At NCAA Track And Field Championships

Comments

EUGENE, Ore. The Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns 4x100-meter relay team of Tyler Hughes, Hanoj Carter, Devin Davis and Jeryl Brazil will look to compete for a national championship beginning Wednesday when they begin action at the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships at historic Hayward Field.

The Ragin' Cajuns, who will run in the last of three heat of the semifinals, will compete at 6 p.m. CDT. Live results will be available at RaginCajuns.com with the meet being televised on ESPNU and ESPN3.

Louisiana will be joined in the heat by Texas, Houston, Texas A&M, LIU Brooklyn, Illinois, Western Kentucky and Iowa. The top two teams in each heat, plus the next two fastest times, will advance to the finals, set for 6:35 p.m. CDT on Friday.

"We are excited to get the opportunity for our relay team to compete for a national championship," Louisiana head coach Lon Badeaux said. "It has been a long time since we've had a 4x1 relay team qualify for the (national) meet. It's going to be a tough task for them against the teams that they are running against, but we believe that we are only getting better and can run faster."

The quartet qualified for the NCAA Championships after posting a time of 39.89 seconds the second-fastest in the Sun Belt Conference and the fifth-fastest mark in school history at the NCAA East Preliminary Meet on May 30 in Jacksonville, Fla.

During the season, the Ragin' Cajuns posted three times of under 41 seconds, with a then-season best 40.26 set by Hughes, Carter, freshman Bismarck Ebiweh and Brazil at the Louisiana Classics in March.
