Track and Field: Fournette Named Sun Belt Field Athlete Of The Week

Comments

NEW ORLEANS Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns track and field standout Albert Fournette earned Male Field Athlete of the Week honors on Wednesday after claiming top honors in the shot put for the fifth time this season.

Fournette, a New Orleans native, maintained his dominance in the shot put during the 2014 outdoor season after recording a season-best throw of 63 feet, 0 inches to claim first-place honors at the LSU Alumni Gold meet last Saturday in Baton Rouge.

The throw by Fournette, on his first attempt, set the league's top mark while ranking seventh overall in the East Region and 14th nationally.

The honor for Fournette was the second by a member of the Ragin' Cajuns during the 2014 outdoor season as Wes Gonzales was named the league's Field Athlete of the Week on April 2.

The Ragin' Cajuns will return to action on Saturday when they travel to Natchitoches to compete in the Leon Johnson NSU Invitational. The weekend meet will be the final tuneup for the Ragin' Cajuns before competing in the Sun Belt Conference Championships, May 9-11 in San Marcos, Texas.
