Cross Country: Cross Country To Face Challenging Field At A&M Invitational

COLLEGE STATION, Texas The Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns men's and women's cross country team will face a talented field when it competes in the Texas A&M Invitational on Saturday at the Dale Watts Cross Country Course.
 
The men's 8,000-meter race begins at 8:15 a.m., followed by a women's 6,000-meter race at 9. Live results, courtesy of FlashResults.com will be available on the cross country schedule page at www.RaginCajuns.com.
 
Louisiana is one of 17 teams competing in the women's race, which features 10 regionally-ranked teams, including nine of the top 15 in the South Central Region. Joining Louisiana in the women's field are South Central ranked Texas (2), host Texas A&M (5), Rice (6), North Texas (7), Stephen F. Austin (8), Lamar (9), TCU (11), UT Arlington (13), Houston (15) and Central Region school Missouri (8). Also included in the field are Abilene Christian, Central Arkansas, Houston Baptist, LSU, McNeese State and UT Rio Grande Valley.
 
The Ragin' Cajuns are one of 16 teams in the men's field that includes regionally-ranked schools Texas (2), North Texas (3), Lamar (4), SFA (5), UTA (6), Texas A&M (7), Houston (8), McNeese State (9), UCA (10), Missouri (14).
 
"This is an opportunity they (women's team) need to take to be a regionally-ranked team which is what we're trying to do," head coach Lon Badeaux said. "The men are still playing from behind with injuries and have gotten some spotty results early in the season. Their workouts have been better and we're gearing up for the (Sun Belt) conference meet."
 
Through the first two meets of the season at McNeese State and Rice, Courtney Musgrove has paced the Ragin' Cajuns on the women's side. Musgrove earned an 11th-place finish (17:0.7) to lead Louisiana at the Rice Invitational on Sept. 11 with freshman Hailey Hesterman (17:11.53) finishing 12th. Anna Devitt added a 15th-place finish (17:13.79) for the Ragin' Cajuns, who finished third out of 11 teams in the 3,800-meter race.
 
Competing without All-Sun Belt Conference runner Matt Rice, sophomore Beau Robinson paced the Ragin' Cajuns in the men's 5,500-meter race finishing 16th overall after posting a time of 19:12.62. Bryce Robinson (19:59.78) and Sean Bezdek (20:00.39) finished 45th and 46th respectively for the Ragin' Cajuns with Trey Bonin (20:10.19) finishing 50th, Jacob Chicola (20:26.87) 65th, Christian Bergeron (20:44.20) 72nd, Dylan Heck (20:52.95) 78th and Cole Stafford (21:27.5) 92nd.
 
The meet for the Ragin' Cajuns will be one of two during the 2015 season on the Dale Watts Cross Country Course with the NCAA South Central Regional meet set for Nov. 11.
