GULF SHORES, Ala. Paced by a first-place finish from Jasmin Fusilier in the heptathlon, the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns surged into second-place in women's competition after the second day of the 2015 Sun Belt Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships on Saturday at Mickey Miller Blackwell Stadium.

The final day of the meet begins at 10 a.m., on Sunday with competition in the men's discus followed by the men's pole vault, the women's triple jump and the women's discus at noon. Running events will begin at 5 p.m., with the final event the men's 4x400-meter relay scheduled for 8 p.m.

Louisiana finished the second day of the three-day event in second place on the women's side with 60 points, two behind leader Arkansas State. Georgia State (44), South Alabama (43) and Appalachian State (40.5) rounded out the top five after nine events with Texas State (33), Troy (22), ULM (22), UT Arlington (17) and Georgia Southern (6.5) rounding out the field.

On the men's side, Louisiana finished the second day in sixth place with 28 points after seven events. The Ragin' Cajuns followed co-leaders Arkansas State and South Alabama (55), defending champion UT Arlington (49), ULM (36) and Texas State (30) with Troy (9), Appalachian State (8) and UALR (3) rounding out the field.

"We have good scoring events on the men's side (Sunday) and we qualified a lot of people, so I expect us to make a surge," head coach Lon Badeaux said. "The women competed really well today and although we didn't qualify as many on the track, we really put ourselves in position to do well on the final day."

Fusilier claimed two of the final three events in Saturday's competition to finish with a personal-best 5,137 points and become Louisiana's first heptathlon champion. The New Iberia native claimed the long jump title with a distance of 18 feet, 4 inches, while also claiming the 800-meter run with a time of 2:28.06.

Teammate Alexandra Harrell bolstered Louisiana's performance in the heptathlon as she finished fourth overall with 4,691 points.

Tia Mitchell and Madalyn Trisler each earned All-Sun Belt after posting a second-place finish in their respective events. Mitchell, competing in the long jump, posted a mark of 19-8 for the Ragin' Cajuns with Fusilier coming back to finish fifth overall at 18-10 . Trisler jumped 5-8 in the high jump to finish second for Louisiana while Harrell finished fourth overall at 5-4 .

In the women's 3,000-meter steeplechase, Claire Hodges posted a time of 11:06.37 to finish sixth overall.

Senior Devin Davis earned All-Sun Belt Conference honors in the men's long jump after he finished third overall with a mark of 24-9 . In the men's shot put, Justin Victor finished eighth overall at 52-4 with freshman Beau Robinson finished seventh overall in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a time of 9:26.97.

Hanoj Carter (10.43) and Jeryl Brazil (10.52) each qualified for the finals of the men's 100-meter dash with Carter also qualifying for Sunday's 200-meter final after posting the second-fastest time (20.82) in the preliminaries.

Three members of the Ragin' Cajuns qualified for the finals in the men's 110-meter hurdles as freshman Tyler Hughes (14.61), Morgan Cormier (14.62) and freshman Arthur Price (14.81) each advanced through the preliminaries. Cormier added a qualifying performance in the 400-meter hurdles after posting a time of 52.68.

Kelci Lyons (2:09.64) and Danielle Castaldi (2:12.68) each qualified for the finals of the women's 800-meter run for the Ragin' Cajuns with Fusilier qualifying in the 100-meter hurdles (14.31) and freshman Alena Hrusoci advancing to the finals of the 400-meter hurdles (1:02.05).
